When schools closed, many students had nowhere safe and supported to learn. The Learning Hubs Initiative was developed to meet the short-term need for supportive places where vulnerable students could engage in distance learning during COVID-19.
Community Equity Collaborative fundraised for and administered this grant program on behalf of the County of San Mateo, distributing $1.98 million in county funds, private donations, and other contributions through the end of the 2020–21 school year, with funds distributed via San Mateo Credit Union.
The impact
- 741 K–12 students served
- 97% of students served were socioeconomically disadvantaged
- A Learning Hubs Expansion Fund extended the program’s reach
