Teacher Pipeline Project

CEC launched, scaled, and transitioned a groundbreaking early childhood education workforce initiative that has inspired legislation as well as other Bay Area programs.

Launched in 2018 to address the severe shortage of early childhood educators across the Bay Area, the Teacher Pipeline Project recruited community members and helped them enroll in college — pairing coursework with employer connections and wraparound support.

The initiative inspired state legislation and informed local workforce development efforts. Partners included community colleges, local school districts, nonprofits, libraries, boards of supervisors, state legislators, preschools, and early childhood education advocates.

Where it lives now

In 2022, CEC transitioned the program to Upward Scholars, a Bay Area Latinx-led organization specializing in academic and career support for adult immigrants. The program continues today as TeacherUp.

This is how we work: launch, prove, and hand off to a partner positioned to sustain it.
